`` A Chain Of Events Linked By Cause And Effect - 1153 Words
A narrative in film is ââ¬Å"a chain of events linked by cause and effect and occurring in time and spaceâ⬠to tell a story (Bordwell/Thompson). Characters are typically the vessels which, through personality traits and drives, facilitate action and reaction. In Some Like It Hot, the main charactersââ¬â¢ scheming nature puts their lives in danger, forcing them on an adventure to escape. Time and space is used as a vessel to push the narrative and create metaphors, commenting on gender roles and the limitations of accepted sexuality. Therefor, the characters in the film drives causes and their effects, helping to illustrate metaphors created through the use of time and space. The main charactersââ¬â¢ dynamic personalities drive the development of the plot. Joeââ¬â¢s charming, but essentially scheming and manipulative nature allows him to convince a girl he is flirting with to let him borrow her car. This leads him and Jerry to being witnesses of the Valentineââ¬â¢s Day Massacre when they go to pick up the car, sending them on their adventure of escape. Jerryââ¬â¢s imagination and Joeââ¬â¢s calculative ways gave them the idea to disguise as women in the first place.
